Our History

This Grand Lady (Pontiac’s Little Art Theatre a.k.a the “PLAT”) was born in 1868. This three-story building is listed in Pontiac’s historical records as “the TURK building” and categorized as a “GRO” establishment — the local grocery/dry goods store. The business survived 41 years until its last record in 1909.

Our Team & Board Members

The PLAT is operated by a team of passionate and dedicated professionals .

Robert Karazim was a powerful force in Downtown Pontiac following his move there in 2009. A Detroit native, he used his skills, talents, and enthusiasm to bring new life onto Saginaw Street. He became the Arts Commissioner for the City of Pontiac, founded Canvas Pontiac, and was Vice Chair of the Pontiac Historic Commission. As CEO of K and R Studios, named for himself and his lovely partner Karen, he renovated 3 buildings, the last being 47 North Saginaw Street, home to Pontiac’s Little Art Theatre. A lifelong lover and patron of the arts, Robert created a place to showcase artists of all kinds. Robert Karazim passed away in January of 2022, and his partner of 27 years, Karen Jorgensen, promised to continue his wonderful work in Pontiac.

Karen Jorgensen moved to Downtown Pontiac with her partner, Robert Karazim, in 2009. A Detroit native, Karen likes to tell people that she crawled her way up to find a home in Pontiac after living in every other city along Woodward. She worked as an Operational Therapist and Certified Medical Case Manager for 31 years, working primarily with patients who had been in auto accidents. In addition to supporting Robert’s involvement in the Downtown, Karen was a Co-Chair of Canvas Pontiac and a past Secretary for Pontiac’s DBA, a predecessor to Main Street Pontiac. She was a founding partner of Pontiac’s Little Art Theatre and Green Room Cafe. Since closing her Medical Case Management business in July of 2021 and Robert’s passing in January 2022, Karen has been the sole owner and operator of the PLAT and the Cafe. She continues to uphold Robert’s enthusiasm for the arts and looks to support the future of Pontiac’s small businesses.

Nancy Oswein is a film producer living in Rochester Hills with her family. Nancy has several adopted children who she loves. She is the owner of Auburn Moon Productions and acts as a producer and screenwriter. After spending over a decade as an awarding winning agent for performing arts, Nancy decided to switch gears and turn to the film side of things. She has traveled across the country and the world, winning awards for production and screenwriting.

Tom Raymond is an Oakland County Native who has worked with the City of Pontiac and Oakland County. He has spent the majority of his career in the business realm and in 2013 was asked to serve as Business Counselor with Oakland County Business Center. He accepted and started working as a volunteer business consultant with SCORE, a business mentoring program. Tom’s work has helped grow several businesses in Pontiac, and is proud of that growth. He is excited to work with Pontiac’s Little Art Theatre and see how downtown Pontiac grows.
